PROGRAMS

Our programs at UYPAC will follow the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Fine Arts.
The disciplines within the Nevada State Board of Education are similar to UYPAC’s program.  They are the following: Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance, and Media Arts.  Nevada’s board of education has based their teachings upon the belief that “Artistic Literacy provides students with an ability to create, present, critique, and connect art to their academic studies, lives, and the world around them.”

There are 67,927 youth enrolled in elementary and high school in North Las Vegas, Nevada.  Of that number, 96% are enrolled in public schools.  North Las Vegas high school dropout rate is at 19%, which is 7% higher than the national rate of 12 percent.  The four schools that we plan to work with in North Las Vegas are Cheyenne High School, Canyon Springs High School, Kermit R Booker Sr. Innovative Elementary School and Matt Kelly Elementary School.

Mentoring

Instructors and volunteers will serve as mentors to youth participating in UYPAC’s music educational programs.  The programs will operate during afterschool where youth will adhere to a regular schedule that will include time for homework, music instruction, snacks and break time.

Music Education

Is a field of study associated with the teaching and learning of music.  The incorporation of music training from preschool to postsecondary education is common in most nations because involvement in music is considered a fundamental component of human culture and behavior.
